This week-long camp is designed for teens aged 14-16 who are eager to learn essential skills for managing wilderness emergencies. It's also an excellent opportunity for those interested in an advanced first aid course or looking to strengthen their disaster preparedness for urban emergencies. Plus, it adds extra value to college applications and resumes!

Upon enrollment, students will receive a link to an online adult CPR training (1.5 hours), which needs to be completed before the start of the WFA class.

Students who attend the entire class, and pass the skills evaluations* will receive:

  • A Backcountry Medical Training Wilderness First Aid certification card.
  • An HSI (Health and Safety Institute) Adult CPR certification card.
  • A Washington State–approved Epinephrine Auto-Injector & Anaphylaxis Training certificate.

*A key part of the Wilderness First Aid certification is the physical assessment of a patient, where students evaluate injuries or medical issues by gently checking the patient from head to toe. If a student suspects a specific injury, such as a fractured arm, they’ll focus on that area to assess for fractures, range of motion, and circulation. Students will practice these assessments on a fellow participant, with instructors providing guidance and feedback. If your child is uncomfortable with this, they can perform the assessment on a parent or friend at an alternate time. Note: Completing this hands-on assessment is required to earn the certification card.
